Silk is my Japanese adventure and my “Zen” album, which I created during a writing
retreat in a Ryokan (traditional Japanese Inn) close to Japan's ancient capital,
Kyoto. It was not difficult to be inspired while surrounded by bamboo forests, waterfalls,
mist covered mountains, ancient temples and sacred shrines!
When writing Silk, I found the Solo Piano to be the perfect vehicle to incorporate
the Japanese “Zen” philosophies of simplicity, beauty and space into serene, touching
and emotionally moving music. cic.
Hidden Dancers is designed to take the listener on a gentle, flowing and melodic
musical journey... through the mountains, forests and beaches of tropical Australia.
When I returned to my birthplace in Tropical North Queensland, I spent days
taking photographs of my favourite places in an effort to capture the unique magic
of where I grew up. Then at home with the photographs pinned up around me, I composed
the music for Hidden Dancers… music which I hope will calm and relax you… and also
inspire you to appreciate the beauty that is all around us.
This album was inspired by inspired by my early childhood, spent in the tiny
rainforest village of Kuranda, in the tropical North of Australia. The Music for
Solo Piano I created for “Magic” embodies the cascade of waterfalls, the silence
of the rainforest and the music of the monsoons… captured in a series of tranquil
and uplifting piano melodies.
On several of the tracks I've also blended in soft and beautiful “Enya-style”
vocal effects by guest vocalist and fellow North Queensland artist Julie Mercer.
Firelight Moon is my most gentle, reflective and intimate album. It is touched with
a hint of melancholy and inspired in part by my years of classical piano training,
when my favourite pieces to play were the Nocturnes (Night Music) of Piano composer
I always picture Firelight Moon as an accompaniment to a quiet evening, a candle,
and a glass of red wine...
