During a writing retreat in a traditional Japanese Inn close to the country’s ancient capital, Kyoto, Richard composed the music for Silk - surrounded by bamboo forests, mist covered mountains, sacred shrines and ancient temples.

Silk is a serene, touching and emotionally moving journey designed to calm the mind and massage the soul – somewhat reflecting the Japanese “Zen” philosophies of simplicity, beauty and space, in over one hour of tranquil music for solo piano.

An album inspired by Richard's early childhood, spent in the tiny rainforest village of Kuranda, in the tropical North of Australia. “Magic” captures the cascade of waterfalls, the silence of the rainforest and the music of the monsoons in a series of tranquil and uplifting piano melodies.

On several tracks Richard’s piano blends with soft and beautiful “Enya-style” vocal effects by guest vocalist Julie Mercer.

T have a copy of your CD entitled 'Hidden Dancers'... we find it very relaxing while preparing for the evening - it is part of our 'calm down time' before bed!

I have 2 small children and we listen to music while dinner is being prepared, during the meal by candlelight and getting ready for bed - right up to story time and then sometimes after while Mummy is cleaning the kitchen and making lunches etc for the next day!

THE QUIETENING

Richard created The Quietening during several writing retreats in some of some of the places that most inspire me close to home on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia - the ancient forests of the Bunya Mountains, a mud brick cottage on a hill in the Noosa Hinterland, watching the sunrise over the Glasshouse Mountains and in my home studio overlooking the ocean.

Soothing and yet uplifting, The Quietening gently cradles the listener in a serene, calm and tranquil world of hauntingly beautiful music for solo piano.

Richard’s aim when creating this album was to produce gentle solo piano music that is relaxing in mood and yet uplifting at the same time – music that “calms the mind and lifts the spirit”.

The creative journey to produce Lifted began on the beautiful island of Kauai, Hawaii, where as well as the breathtaking scenery Richard was also inspired by the lovely harmonics of traditional Hawaiian music. He also composed music in the red deserts near Phoenix, Arizona before the album came to completion closer to home in the picturesque Blackall Ranges near the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia.
